42 Focus | Data storage It has a removable module that allows easy transport of data between the vehicle or aircraft and the command station or lab, where the data is used and passive docking stations allow easy data exchange between the deployed servers and the ground infrastructure such as mission planning and debriefing systems. The 2.4 GHz eight-core Intel C2758 processor in this NAS drive has 8 Gbytes of DDR3 SDRAM storage and runs Debian or Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or Windows 10 and Windows Server with AES265 encryption. It can be combined with data recorder software to send 500 Mbytes/s of video over the network to solid-state storage. Conclusion Developing a secure, reliable data storage system for unmanned platforms requires a wide range of system-level expertise. The demand for more data storage for higher resolution video is assisted by the higher capacity drives using the latest NAND memory chips, but ensuring the reliability and security of these drives is a challenge. Adding monitoring, error correction and predictive maintenance in the drive controller and security at multiple levels in the system can protect the data, especially for black box applications after accidents. But at the same time the power consumption and temperature has to be carefully monitored and controlled, while reducing the weight of the packaging required to handle heat dissipation and protection from vibration.
